Ameren wants to raise nat. gas rates

The company filed a delivery service rate case with the Illinois Commerce Commission yesterday.

If the entire amount requested is approved, a typical Ameren residential customer using 785 therms of natural gas per year would pay about $2.52 more in Rate Zone 1, $4 more in Rate Zone 2, and about $2.90 in Rate Zone 3.

Ameren is seeking an additional $50 million in cost recovery for its natural gas delivery service. The company last raised rates on January 20th of last year.

The company says the rate increase would help recover its infrastructure investments and the increased cost of delivering natural gas to about 813-thousand homes and businesses in downstate Illinois.

Ameren must secure permission for additional cost recovery from the ICC as required by state law. The process to change its delivery service rate takes 11 months. The company says the new rates would not take effect before late December.
