State officials remind residents to be safe Super Bowl Sunday

Motorists are urged to be responsible and use designated drivers if their parties include alcohol. Last year, there were four people killed in crashes during the Super Bowl weekend, three of those were alcohol-related fatalities, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

In 2010, more than 10-thousand people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes - one every 51 minutes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to NHTSA, the rate of alcohol involvement in fatal crashes is four times as high at night as during the day, and twice as high on the weekend as opposed to during the week.
