UPDATE: One hurt, another in custody after accident

The South Jacksonville Police Department got the call just before 1:00 yesterday afternoon.

Police chief Richard Evans says a Honda Civic driven by 33-year-old April Salto of the 1000 block of East Morton was traveling southbound on South Main when it apparently attempted to make a U-turn at Moeller Road.

Evans says the vehicle was then struck on the driver’s side by an SUV traveling southbound on the highway driven by 23-year-old Robert Taylor of Pittsfield.

Evans says Salto’s passenger- 24-year-old Terry Dietsch of the 1-hundred block of Springbrook Road- fled from the car immediately after the accident.

“Apparently from what we can understand from when officers arrived on the scene, he traveled in a northwesterly direction and was apprehended by the Jacksonville Police Department on Minor Drive near Willow Drive without incident and taken into custody,” says Evans.

Dietsch was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident. He’s been released from the Morgan County Jail on bond.

Salto was taken to Passavant Area Hospital. Evans says she is receiving treatment in the emergency room this afternoon. She’s been arrested for DUI, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to yield at an intersection.

Taylor was not injured.

Evans says more charges could be filed against both Salto and Dietsch, pending further investigation.

Updated at 5:00 to include names, more details.
