Troopers along with local police agencies will be stepping up efforts to spot and arrest impaired drivers during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Authorities say Roadside Safety Checks, Alcohol Countermeasures Enforcement patrols, Seatbelt Enforcement Zones, Speed details as well as other directed patrols will be used aggressively this weekend.

Troopers say more than 40 percent of Illinois traffic fatalities involve alcohol.

Authorities remind party-goers to designate a sober driver.
