School bus crash injures one
According to the Illinois State Police, the accident involving a Bluffs School District bus happened at around 3:30 p.m. about a mile west of town on Naples Lane at the intersection with Bunch Road.
Reports indicate 56-year-old Deborah Mills of Bluffs was driving an Oldsmobile Delta westbound when the bus, driven by 40-year-old Clinton Coats also of Bluffs, stopped in front of her to let students get off the bus. Police say Mills failed to reduce speed and rear-ended the vehicle.
The bus apparently had stop lights and signs activated when the crash happened.
State police say the 20 students on board, as well as the driver, were not hurt. Mills was taken to Passavant Area Hospital, where she has been treated and released.
She was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The bus sustained minor rear-end damage, while the front end of Mills’ vehicle was heavily damaged.
The Meredosia-Bluffs rescue squad also responded.
